View Full Version : Who is building a hybrid?

I've almost collected all the parts I need to build a hybrid motor and was wondering who else is working on this project. I plan on building some cam sprockets this weekend and I'll try to order all the hardware necessary to do the plumbing soon. Next comes welding up my custom log manifold.

I'm in the process of building a 2.5 for my 88 shelbyZ. I waited almost 9 months for my wiseco 30 overs to come in and everything is down at the machine shop right now. I told the guy to take his time on it so he is. I have most of the parts for the engine with some minor here and there's still to get, but nothing major. I also just got a really good deal yesterday on a HX-35 so that is one thing to put a check next to. Good luck with yours, I'm hoping mine will be running by May, but that might be a long shot.

Sounds like you're on your way to getting things together. I think I'm going to try to weld up my exhaust manifold this weekend and maybe start drilling/tapping the head and block for plugs. How did you make your plugs? I was kinda thinking about screwing the plugs below the deck surface and then using epoxy to fill the holes. I think somebody has a running motor setup like this, so it can't be a terrible idea.

I'm actually leaving all the plugging to my machinist. He was referred to me by a guy on TD and is building one for him. Really nice guy. Good luck on yours.

Which Wiseco pistons are you using? Are they special 16V pistons or are you planning on using the stock style 2.5L T1 pistons?

They are the 16v ones. Wanted to be careful so everything cleared. The pistons themselves are pretty awesome, they weighed less then the pins did. Not sure if they come that way or because they took 9 months to make they did extra work on them. Anyone help me out with that??

Do you have a compression ratio for the Weisco pistons in the Neon 16v aplication. I'm assuming you got them through TU. I'm up in the air about the venolias vs Weiscos. I am leaning toward the Weisco just because I don't like the piston slap associated with the venolias and having to use .30 rings filed down to fit because of the clearances needed for them.

I have no idea what the compression ratio will be, so I don't know what to tell you. I've heard the 2.5L T1 pistons and the Neon head was around 8:1 and that the 16V lotus pistons were closer to 8.5 or 9:1. I have no idea what the 16V pistons are that the vendors are selling, but they could be leftovers from the T3 projects. At least with the T1 pistons I'll know my compression is low enough :)

ok...so in the future I will refer to you as "MR" Buchbinder...
I think I will just sell all my stuff now....j/k..very very nice...

p.s. I would have left the label on the extinguisher, so the tires
would know how to behave.........

I'm working on building a turbo 2.5, an NA 2.2 this year, and another turbo 2.5 next year. The turbo 2.5 will be using a DSM left handed head. First turbo goes into an '88 Shelby Daytona Z, the NA goes into my '84 Charger and will be shooting for 11:1 compression. The next year project is a tad vague, but will be for my '84 Rampage.

Damn!. What are you going to do for a computer? You have any pictures of your set up?

Im going to run the custom 16V from Cindy. Stage 5 calibration, if I remember correctly. Andre is giving my head the LWP touch, then it should be good to go. (cue the taco bell hand signal)

This thread makes me want to finish building my 16V. I'm about at the limits of the 8V setup, and plan on running E85 on my next project... I think a turbocharged, alcohol 16V 2.5L would be a monster.

the csx-t is a turbo 3 with a 2.4 head and the oter is a minvan with a2.5 and a 2.4 head. this is not the same as the neon motor.
