did you blow it up?
BTW in order to keep things fresh, a little extra treat for the smaller BM crowd here,
If you watch, you can see my car fall off the dyno from my own idiocy. Dyno operator kept yelling things that made no sense. SRT4 fell off too but MUCH worse. Pretty darn scary! I did win the dyno day even though my good dyno pull didnt register (yay dyno) and my 445 pull was 5 cylinders + fire. I was still crazy rich. My very first attempted pull wouldnt even build boost because it was so rich.
The street pulls when I accidentally hit 24 pounds of boost are easy 600+whp territory. BUT IMO not safe at all. I have found my stock front manifold is causing the front cylinders to run hot thanks to reversion. Not good. 2 damaged spark plugs from the 3rd time it hit 24 pounds (it only got lean on the last time). Thats probably when it actually did the damage to the O ring.
Everything else is cut and paste, same thing in TM/TD.
some language in the beginning of a song and then from me when I thought I blew up my car or almost crashed on video.
I was not particularly happy about the fact that I had 2 passengers, one of which was siting on a pillow in my non existent back seat. I said that was a no go but I was not listened to.
10:1 Junkyard destroys drag radials and BLOWS UP - Car Videos on StreetFire
You can skip the first 2 minutes if you hate politics/jokes. It makes me giggle. Trying to go with a theme for fun. Video is better then some previous ones because I don't have to use windows movie maker on my old slow desktop. Ick. Premiere on new laptop
The SOHC did 445whp on 5 cylinders and 10.5 AFR on 18 PSI. Probably did well over 500 on the run that didn't record. The car was insane on the road, definitly more responsive then when I had my low compression motor running 20psi.
This is a 190,000 mile 12 valve 10:1 diamante motor. I am trying a different ghetto O ring trick that failed on the last dyno pull (could have failed at any point I guess). blew out the O ring and instantly dumped all the coolant the motor + had a fire.
The motor is still ticking. As long as I don't put coolant in it, its fine :P
I didnt even realize this happened (well the fire was obvious) until I watched the video. I thought it was just head flex. Then I put coolant in and...fail :P
Pretty damn Impressive IMO. If this motor hangs around its going to be running 10 second 1/4's on less then 20psi boost. Megasquirt II harness is finally built, so I should be reving to 7500+ next year.
We recently found out that G54b (2.6L mitsu in starion and minivans) valvetrain parts and valves can be used in a SOHC. (the valves are HUGE oversize valves and the springs are a double strength upgrade and some of the minivans cam factory with solid lifters (if the lifters start collapsing).
I was planning on running 10's on a bone stock 8.9 motor but I think this will still be a lot of fun, especially when I get the cylinder head seal issue worked out better. I am trying ghetto methods right now so I can at least say I tried them. Copper wire supeglued to 95mm cometic worked great until it blew out. Wire was really thin so it couldnt take much abuse. My next trick may be a thin steel wire (about .07" thick ish?) on a DOHC MLS. The stock motor doesn't have a huge overbore so there is NO reason to use the 95mm comejunk. The worst thing about O rings is that they will sit out even farther then the gasekt so you might have a simulated 97mm bore showing huge weaknesses in the cylinders head.
The sohc cylinder head is definitly weak. If the ghetto stuff doesnt work, I will combine the ghetto stuff with a partial filled 12v cylinder head using devcon, then drilling out the coolant passages. The 12v head is completely hallow and just doesnt have the strength to hold up to extreme cylinder pressures. My guess on my Built motor holding 20ps decently well with just a 95mm cometic is that the 7:1 compression kept actual combustion pressures down. The 10:1 motor is much harder on the headgasket, even on less boost.

ghettO.... mmmkay, so say some. entitled to their thoughts they are,
"source" some stainless .045 welding wire , super glue to the cometic,
torque, let set, tear down and install new wire.
xtra work , yuppers, cheap as dirt (relatively speaking) and all ghettO
hehehe but works it does then![]()
It is sobering to reflect that one of the best ways to get yourself a reputation as a dangerous citizen these days is to go about repeating the very phrases which our founding fathers used in the struggle for independence. – Charles A. Beard
'The government has no resources. Everything it spends was created by private individuals and still belongs to taxpayers. All government can do is take from the industrious, the inventive, the hard-working and the frugal to dispense on the inefficient, the lazy, or the irresponsible. Government spending bites the very hand that feeds it.'
I have seen mustang guys oring the block with good results. Car craft dod that with one of their motors with a pretty inexpensive tool. Will have to find that issue and see how much it cost, but if it was in cc it had to be cheap!
Congratulations Obama! Now where is my f-ing check?
I had an o-ringed block...sucked...o-ring the head if anything
Gun control is the polar opposite of limp wristed.
I was using a .0012" thick copper wire that I removed out of some stranded electrical wire.
Steel wire will have to be thinner because it won't compress. Standard Steel O rings when combined with MLS gaskets are only supposed to stick .004" out of the deck of the block. I think a thin steel wire I can get away with a bit more. Or try a thicker copper wire that can take a little more abuse.
I am trying to work out affordable ways for other people building 3.0's to copy if they want to make big power.
.030" steel welding wire was okay in a stock composite gasket when I premeasured how much it sank into the gasket, but i think when finally compressed, the .035" wire would have been better, maybe something thicker even! That gasket held until I detonated from leaning out at 22psi boost. When taken apart, the O rings had sank into the gasket more then I predicted. That was a 90k mile used, sitting in the shed 3 years headgasket set so I am staying away from that for now.

The head is the weak part on the 3.0, but O ringing the head = shop work and I am sorta afraid of removing more material from my head. Porsche and DSMers O ring heads. Nothing else works. I know people who tried custom high dollar head studs (with some of the new materials available) and of course that did nothing to strengthen the firing ring on the cylinder head. Probably made things worse by clamping to 120 ft/lb and distorting the head.
It would be a pretty simple answer. Something I possibly should look into if my quest fails. I don't really want to do the devcon partial fill and coolant passage drilling. That will work but I know it will intimidate other people if they want to copy. In the end, anyone can take their head to a shop and get O ring crap cut in.
My issue would be the fact that I have both a 93.5MM bore shortblock and then my stock 91.1mm bore engines. I don't want to limit what heads I can install on various blocks.

IIRC right the mustang guys have head gaskets with the rings in them. Then they groove the block.

You should GRM this shit and show people what is really up. Granted your turbo would probably disqualify you.
Submit it to a couple magazines at least. Someone is bound to pick it up and get a kick out of it.
